Lagos Records High Turnout As Private, Public Schools Begin

Lagos State has recorded a high turnout of students as private and public schools in Alimosho and Ikeja resumed academic activities on Monday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that students were seen trooping into schools such as Krisbetel College, Honeyland Schools, Daystar Montessori School, Sophem High School, and Alimosho Junior and Senior High School in Alimosho.

Ayodeji Olasubomi, a parent told NAN of the sudden hike in school fees, appealing t schools to be considerate in fixing tuition and other fees, given the economic state of the country.

“We have no choice but to retain the school because it is one of the best within Alimosho area,” he said.

Another parent, Aminat Rasaki, expressed happiness at the preparedness of the parent and schools for the resumption of the news session.

Akintoye Hassan, Chairman, Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Lagos State chapter confirmed the turnout of students in public schools across Alimosho.

Both students and teachers in Lagos state are to resume fully today without any delay but we all know that few students will resume during the week or next week,” he said.

Also speaking to NAN, Yomi Otubela, the National President of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) disclosed that private school teachers underwent training during the break, assuring their readiness for resumption.

He said while the new scheme would be taught starting next week, a revision of the last term's work was taught on the day of resumption.

“We hope those that are not resuming today will join later in the week or by next week so they will not miss out from what others have learnt,” Otubela explained.
