The Lagos state Commissioner for finance, Rabiu Olowo, has announced that the state government has cancelled the 2018 land use charge.
Making this announcement at a press briefing on Wednesday, Olowo said the state government, led by Babajide Sanwo-olu, has chosen to revert to its pre-2018 land use charges.
Olowo further said that the penalties for land use charges for 2017, 2018, and 2019 have also been waived, which according to him translates to a loss of revenue amounting to N5.6bn.
It will be recalled that the immediate past Governor of the state, Akinwunmi Ambode, had on February 8, 2018, signed a new law that increased the state's land Use Charge by 200 per cent.
A development which sparked a series of outrage and protests saw Landlords and other civil society organizations complaining about the increment.
