Coronavirus: Nigeria's Total Hits 4641 With 242 New COVID-19 Cases

Nigeria has recorded 242 new cases of coronavirus, with 88 from Lagos which happens to be the epicentre.

According to a Twitter post by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), all the cases were recorded in 14 states. Read more here.

How Drivers, Conductors Are Aiding Coronavirus Spread Through Face Masks - Lagos CP

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, on Monday, disclosed that commercial bus drivers and their conductors are aiding the spread of Coronavirus in the state by making their passengers re-use face masks.

Odumosu, who made this revelation at a press conference at the Command Headquarters, Ikeja, said that Investigation carried out by the command revealed that commercial bus drivers and their conductors, for fear of arrest, have resorted to buying face masks which they in-turn share to passengers who are not wearing any. COVID-19: Buhari Gives Major Condition For Use of Madagascar’s Herbal Cure

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Presidential Task Force, PTF, on COVID-19 to pick up Madagascar’s plant-based remedy for Coronavirus, COVID-19 Organics, but on the condition that the herbal syrup must be subjected to pharmaceutical checks by relevant authorities in Nigeria.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Chairman of the PTF, Mr. Boss Mustapha, disclosed this on Monday at the daily briefing of the task force, adding that Madagascar donated some of the products to Nigeria through Guinea-Bissau and arrangements were being made to pick them up. COVID-19: American Lady Dies In Hotel During Visit to Nigerian Boyfriend

An American woman has died in a hotel in Osubi, Delta state, Nigeria, after showing symptoms of Coronavirus.

The woman came into the country on March 3, 2020, to visit a young guy she met online who apparently is her boyfriend and they were lodged in the hotel for a while before she started showing symptoms of coronavirus. Read more here.

Afro Nation: Organisers Postpone Event Over Coronavirus Fears

The 2020 edition of Afro Nation where Nigerian music stars Davido, Burnaboy, Olamide among others are billed to perform has been postponed.

Afro Nation billed to hold from July 1 to 3 2020 has been postponed by one year, according to an announcement made by the organisers on Monday. Read more here.

COVID-19: Nigerian Economic Summit Group Reveals Why Nigeria Needs N10.1 Trillion

The Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) has revealed that Nigerian businesses and households need N10.1 trillion worth of interventions from the Federal Government considering the over 100 million individuals living in poverty within the country and the continuous impact of coronavirus on the economy.

According to NESG's Chief Executive Officer, Jaiyeola Laoye, the Nigerian government needs to increase the intervention effort in order improve the economy. He said with the interventions from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), fiscal authorities and donations, the intervention effort of the government is estimated at N4.5 trillion (3.1 per cent of GDP). Ecudaorian President Takes Pay Cut Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

The president of Ecuador, Lenin Moreno, has, along with other top members in his administration, taken a 50 percent pay cut, as the country struggles in its fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

Ecuador has recorded over 30,000 coronavirus cases, falling behind Brazil and Peru with 163,000 and 67,307 cases respectively. Read more here.

COVID-19: Kano State Extends Lockdown By One Week

The lockdown imposed on Kano State by President Muhammadu Buhari, on April 27, in a bid to curb the spread of the deadly coronavirus has been extended by the Kano state government. 

The extension was disclosed on Tuesday by the Kano State Commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba, who said that the governor of the state, Abdullahi Ganduje, had added another one week to the lockdown. Read more here.
