Suspected armed bandits have killed an 80-year-old woman identified as Hauwwa Umaru in Sharu village, Igabi LGA of Kaduna State.
The State Chairman, Internal Security, and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan said in a statement that security agencies reported the killing of the aged woman to the Kaduna government.
Aruwan disclosed that the bandits stormed the village and raided several homes, adding that they shot sporadically, Hauwwa Umaru, was hit by a bullet and died instantly.
The on-going shake-up in the Nigerian Police, ensuring transfers of Senior Police Officers (SPOs) to different formations and offices has hit the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the Lagos State Police Command.
The ex-Officer-in-Charge, DCP Yetunde Longe is now the Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of DFA, Zone 2 Command (Lagos and Ogun States).
Longe handed over to DCP Fayoade Adegoke on Friday. She resumes at her new office at Zone 2 headquarters Monday.
The Adamawa State Commissioner of Police (CP), Aliyu Adamu has vowed to eliminate Shila Boys in the state.
Shila Boys are a deadly criminal gang who operate mostly in the day robbing Adamawa residents, especially in and around the state capital, often using motorized rickshaws known as Keke NAPEP. Their favourite weapon is the knife with which they cut uncooperative victims.
Adamu said at his inaugural press briefing on Monday that his officers and men would be combing Shila Boys’ hideouts and ensuring that they would have no space and time to plan their robberies.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, (NDLEA) has intercepted 21.9kg of cocaine at Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja.
According to a statement signed by the NDLEA Spokesman, Deputy Commander of Narcotics (DCN) Jonah Achema, said the illicit substance concealed in two suite cases was the largest single seizure by the Command.
Jonah noted that the two unaccompanied and unclaimed suitcases were discovered after the arrival of Ethiopian Airline, ET 910 in Abuja from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Nasiru Hamisu who buried his 4-year-old daughter alive has been sentenced to death by hanging.
Nasiru was sentenced on Thursday by Justice Ahmed Mohammed Kazaure of the Jigawa State High Court.
Hamisu was accused of killing his 4-year-old biological daughter Zainab and burying her alive in his room, court papers revealed.
