Hardship: President Tinubu sets up tripartite economic committee

On Sunday, President Bola Tinubu announced the formation of a tripartite Economic Advisory Committee aimed at bolstering economic stability.

Hardship: No going back on planned protests – NLC

The Nigeria Labour Congress has said it remains firm in its decision to proceed with scheduled protests for Tuesday and Wednesday, citing “mounting hunger and insecurity” in Nigeria.

NLC President, Joe Ajaero who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday alleged that the Federal Government is attempting to use a group, the Nigeria Civil Society Forum, to target its members during the rallies. Read more here.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has achieved significant progress in dismantling an organized criminal network responsible for importing illicit drugs and arms into the country.

The agency uncovered a sophisticated syndicate behind the importation of two containers loaded with drugs and assorted arms from Durban, South Africa, to the Tincan seaport in Lagos. Read more here.

Atleast over 3,000 financial crimes will be investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Chairman of the anti-graft agency, Ola Olukoyede, revealed 

According to The PUNCH, he explained that the 3,000 cases approved for investigation were part of the over 5,000 petitions received by the agency from different groups and Nigerians. Read more here.

Three-day haziness, sunshine predicted by NiMET from Monday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has predicted sunshine and haziness from Monday to Wednesday across the country.

NiMet’s weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja forecasts sunny and hazy atmosphere on Monday over the northern region during the forecast period, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.  Read more here.

SERAP drags Wike, govs to court over missing N40trn LGA allocations

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has state governors and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Nyesom Wike “over their failure to account for the alleged missing N40 trillion federal allocations meant for local governments in the states and the FCT.”

The suit followed the damning revelations by former president Muhammadu Buhari who in December 2022 stated that, “If the money from the Federation Account to the State is about N100m, N50m will be sent to the chairman but he will sign that he received N100 million. Plateau agency orders probe into second fire incident at IDPs hostel

The Plateau State Emergency Management Agency (PLASEMA) has called for a comprehensive investigation into the recent fire outbreak at the IDPs hostel in Shailang, Shendam Local Government Area of the state. 

PLASEMA made this known in a request in a letter addressed to the Nigerian Police Force, the state's Fire Service, and Shendam LGA. Read more here.
