Lawyer Ibrahim Salami Reveals Truth About Sunday Igboho

Ibrahim Salami, a Beninese lawyer and one of the legal representatives of Sunday Adeyemo aka 'Sunday Igboho' has debunked the rumors making waves that Sunday Igboho attempted to escape through the country with a Benin Republic international passport.

Salami, while speaking with the BBC News in Yoruba Language narrated the event that led to the arrest and detention of the Yoruba Nation Activist.

According to him, Sunday Igboho was stopped at the airport by the Benin Republic Police while attempting to travel to Germany with his wife.

"It was gathered that the Nigerian Government had written to the Republic of Benin to apprehend Sunday Igboho if he attempts to travel through their borders.

"It is not true that he was apprehended for committing an offence in the Benin Republic. It is also false that a Benin Republic Passport was found on him.

"He was found with a Nigerian passport and not a Benin Republic international passport as rumoured," he said.

The Legal Representative added that even though Igboho had a German Residence Card and required no visa to enter Germany with his wife, they were apprehended at the police checkpoint of Cotonou Airport.

"Sunday Igboho was apprehended by the Government of Benin Republic on the directive of the Nigerian Government.

"He is currently being held by the Government of Benin Republic for the Nigerian Government to provide evidence to support its allegations against him," he said.

Nigerian Government has accused Sunday Igboho of trafficking weapons of war, attempting to cause unrest, and inciting the breakup of Nigeria.

Salami however stated that Lawyers of the activist have been working hard to prove wrong, all allegations levelled against Igboho and to prevent his extradition into Nigeria.
