The African Union Commission Chairman, Moussa Faki Mahamat has condemned the violence used against protesters in Lekki on Tuesday evening by the military.
According to Amnesty International, at least 12 people were killed during the attack with several others sustained varying degree of injuries.
In a statement on Thursday morning, the AU Chairman appealed to all political and social actors to reject the use of violence and respect human rights and the rule of law.

He also called on all parties to engage in ‘privilege dialogue in order to de-escalate the situation and find concrete and durable reforms’.
Mahamat, however, sent condolences to families and friends of victims that lost their lives in the unfortunate incident. He also wished the injured speedy recovery.
