LG Display Unveils New ‘OLED EX’ TV With Enhanced Bright

The world's leading innovator of display technologies, LG Display has unveiled its latest OLED tech, “OLED EX” which is expected to "enhance brightness up to 30 percent compared to conventional OLED displays."

LG Display unveiled the new technology ahead of CES 2022 event and stated that the new devices are expected to help fix OLED’s biggest flaws next to mini Led technology, that is to say, a lack of overall brightness.

The company stated that each OLED pixel discharges light independently and that allows the TV to show perfect blacks with no "blooming" seen on LED TVs. The current OLED sets display peak brightness levels up to around 500-600 nits, while mini LED sets can hit 2,000 nits and higher.

The EX Technology applied to the OLED EX displays combines deuterium compounds and personalized algorithms to enhance the stability and efficiency of the organic light-emitting diode, thereby improving the overall display performance.

LG Display said that when the OLED EX (Evolution/eXperience) is stabilized, the deuterium compounds allow the light-emitting diodes to emit stronger light and it allows for improved color accuracy by using algorithms to predict the usage of 33 million OLED diodes in an 8K display.

"When stabilized, the deuterium compounds allow the display to emit brighter light while maintaining high efficiency for a long time,"

"Precisely controls the display's energy input to more accurately express the details and colors of the video content being played."

LG Display also upgraded its design by minimizing the thickness by 30 percent and bezel size from 6 to 4 mm on 65-inch OLED displays.

LG Display's Dr. Oh Chang-ho didn’t say when the technology will be available in the market but he made mention that the aim is to provide a highly innovative and high-end customer experience.

"With our new OLED EX technology, we aim to provide even more innovative, high-end customer experiences through the evolution of our OLED technology, algorithms and designs."
