The Osun State House of Assembly has commended the State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) for conducting a free and fair election during the last local government election in the state.
Chairman House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Taiwo Adebayo Olodo made these remarks at the ongoing budget defence exercise at the House of Assembly on Thursday.
Olodo noted that the last local government election conducted in October was free, fair, credible and acceptable.
"I want to say that the last local government election in the state was free, fair, credible and accepted.
"The October local government election went smoothly across the state," he added.
He also advised the commission to double its efforts on future elections in the state.
In their various contributions during the exercise, the lawmakers appreciated the ministry of the judiciary for maintaining a peaceful atmosphere in the state.
They also gave kudos to the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and its Commission for handling chieftaincy affairs diligently in the state.
Among the MDAs that appeared for screening exercise before the lawmakers included the Ministry of Justice, High Court of Justice, Judiciary Services Commission, Customary Court of Appeal and Civil Services Commission.
Others are the Local Government Services Commission, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ministry of Women, and Children Affairs, Osun Independent Electoral Commission and New Towns and Growth Areas Development Authority respectively.
