As the October 2022 local government election draws closer, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Osun Chapter have called on the political parties in the state to ensure that, Women in Politics, as well as Persons With Disability (PWDs) from their respective political parties, are part of the local government elections candidates.
This was disclosed in a release by Chairperson Motunrayo Ayegbayo and the Secretary, Abisola Ariwodola who said that the thirty-five per cent affirmative of women in politics, as well as the inclusion of Persons with Disability in politics, must be considered.
According to the release, political parties must be fair in the choice of their candidates, considering that gender and persons with disability have a right to participate in politics, to vote and as well to be voted for.
The female journalists association in Osun uses the release to call on Osun Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) to ensure free, fair and credible local government elections.
NAWOJ also urged members of the political parties and the public to cast their votes for candidates of their choices and to ensure no violence before, during and after the elections in Osun.
It also calls on the security operatives and other stakeholders to ensure that law and order is maintained during the process of the local governments elections in Osun state.
