LG Poll: How I’ll Change Grassroots Governance — APC Candidate

LG Poll: How I’ll Change Grassroots Governance — APC Can

A Chairmanship Candidate in the forthcoming Lagos State Council Polls, Moyosere Ogunlewe, says public-spirited individuals and organisations will form part of his administration if voted into office.

Ogunlewe, the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) Chairmanship Candidate for Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos State, gave the assurance in an interview with the press on Saturday in Lagos.

He said this was part of his strategy to improve grassroots governance, stressing that such collaborations were needed to alleviate the plight of the masses in the locality.

According to him, things will be done differently in the area of welfare for residents, healthcare, education, community security and business environment to give greatest happiness to the mass majority of the people.

“We must understand what the local government is all about. It is the most important government that deals directly with the people at the grassroots.

“For me, I am going to be doing a lot of programmes and some of these programmes are geared toward increasing the welfare of the people, the healthcare system and education.

“We are working on how we need to improve the local government system,” Ogunlewe, a legal practitioner and son of a former Minister of Works, Mr Seye Ogunlewe, added.

Ogunlewe said that many well-to-do individuals, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and corporate organisations had yet to be approached to be part of grassroots governance in order to alleviate the suffering of the masses.

He said: “We are going to be partnering with a lot of NGOs, corporate organisations and private individuals within our environment to deliver hope to the masses.

“We will approach them and make them part of the government to assist the people. The government cannot do it alone.

“I am going to be approaching them in majority of what I am going to be doing. Many of them love community services.”

The candidate said that the burden to provide new lease of life to the mass majority in the Kosofe area would be borne by both the government and public-spirited individuals and organisations.

“I can assure you, we will get results. I will deliver. I like change, I am going to do things differently and I can again assure you we will get results.

He said that a functioning healthcare system at the grassroots would save lives of a lot of people.

The APC candidates said that the 19 primary schools in the council area would also be given priority attention to provide quality education to children.

Ogunlewe said that he would tackle widespread poverty by providing adequate infrastructural development and enabling environment for business and investors.

According to him, his administration will engage the youth more for counseling, skills acquisition and massive empowerment programmes.

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has scheduled July 24 for election into the 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Area (LCDAs) of the state.
