Libya: 10,000 Missing After Devastating Floods — IFRC

According to an official from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), 10,000 persons are reported to be missing as a result of catastrophic floods in Libya.

"We can confirm from our independent sources of information that the number of missing people is hitting 10,000 so far," said Tamer Ramadan, the head of the IFRC delegation in Libya.

Flooding and mudslides triggered by heavy rain have ruined several highways and homes.

The port of Derna has been devastated, with much of it submerged after two dams and four bridges fell.

"The death toll is enormous and could reach thousands," Ramadan warned.

The International Fund for Relief and Development (IFRC) may soon issue an appeal for emergency funding to assist flood victims in Libya.
