Lightning Strike Kills Six In Uganda

A lightning strike in Pa, a northern district of Uganda, has caused the death of six people, leaving 11 others in a critical state, after it was announced last month, by the country's weather department that the raining season was at its summit, and that lightning, mudslides, and flooding were to be expected.

Tom Bainomugisha, Police Commander, in a phone interview with Xinhua said that the struck group was gathered under a big tree when the lightning struck during a morning drizzle.

“The group had spent the night in prayers for a bereaved person when the incident happened,’’ Bainomugisha said.

According to Bainomugisha, this is not an uncommon occurrence in the region.

Just two months ago, four farmers were struck by lightning in Kanungu, a southwestern district.
