Ligue 1: PSG Suffer Shocking 2-0 Home Loss To Rennes

In a stunning upset, Rennes put a major dent in Paris Saint-Germain's bid for another Ligue 1 title with a 2-0 victory at the Parc des Princes on Sunday.

The loss marks the second time PSG has been defeated by Rennes in 2023, with Christophe Galtier's squad unable to maintain their dominance over the Brittany club.

The game started with high hopes for PSG, as Kylian Mbappe had an effort disallowed for offside. However, Rennes soon showed their prowess when Karl Toko-Ekambi scored a magnificent strike just before the end of the first half. Arnaud Kalimuendo then sealed the win for Rennes with a goal three minutes into the second half, against the club he left in the last close season.

The loss is PSG's fourth Ligue 1 defeat this season, all of them in 2023, and their first at home in the campaign. PSG had lost to Rennes earlier this year, and this latest defeat puts the Parisians' title hopes in jeopardy.

The result also means that Marseille has an opportunity to cut PSG's lead at the top of the table to seven points if they win away to Reims in Sunday's late game. Meanwhile, Rennes has reclaimed fifth place from Lille in the fight for European qualification, with the team finishing fifth qualifying for the Europa Conference League, the top three going into the Champions League and the fourth going into the Europa League.
