Lille Sack Jocelyn Gourvennec After 10th Finish In Ligue 1

Lille have parted ways with coach Jocelyn Gourvennec after just one season in charge after leading the club to a 10th place finish in the Ligue 1 season.

Former French champions could not defend their title and did not go far in the Champions League. After an assessment of these performances, the club released a statement.

"Lille would like to sincerely thank Jocelyn Gourvennec for his work, commitment and professionalism throughout the 2021-2022 season," the club wrote in a statement posted on its website.

Gourvennec, who replaced Christophe Galtier last summer, won the Champions Trophy and led the team into the knockout stages of the Champions League where they were eliminated by Chelsea.

Portuguese manager Paulo Fonseca has been reported to be the next coach by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
