Messi Hoists World Cup

Argentine maestro Lionel Messi credited his country's World Cup victory to the trophy itself in a recent radio interview.

Messi inspired Argentina to win their first World Cup in over 30 years with two goals and a penalty in the shootout victory against France.

The 35-year-old described how the trophy called out to him and he couldn't resist kissing it.

Messi's career highlights

The World Cup win marks the end of a long and successful career for Messi. He won the World Cup in his fifth and final tournament and clinched his first Copa America title in 2021.

He also holds four Champions League titles, 10 La Liga crowns with Barcelona, a Ligue 1 trophy with Paris Saint-Germain, and a record seven Ballon d'Or awards.

Messi pays tribute to Maradona

Messi became the first Argentina captain to lift the World Cup since Diego Maradona in 1986. He wished Maradona could have handed him the cup and said the late soccer legend gave him strength from above.
