Lionel Messi Wins Record-Setting 7th Ballon d'Or

Former Barcelona, now Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi has broken his own record, setting a new one by winning his 7th Ballon d'Or award on Monday night.

The Argentine maestro has taken a huge step by putting daylight between him and his eternal rival Cristiano Ronaldo by adding another gong to his cabinet.

He finished ahead of Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski who enjoyed a prolific season with the German outfit.

Why Messi Won Ballon d'Or 2021

Messi was a clear favourite for the Ballon d'Or after the Argentine led his national team to the final of the Copa America 2020 alongside a Copa del Rey trophy at club level.

Although, he has not enjoyed much success at Paris Saint-Germain with just 4 goals and 4 assists in 11 appearances this season but the award was a collection of the total year's performance.

The closest person to have scooped the award from Messi was Lewandowski who also enjoy a prolific season with Bayern Munich scoring 46 goals breaking Gerd Mueller's record.
