Local Security Network Arrests Child Traffickers In Ebonyi

Ebubeagu Security Network in Ebonyi State has arrested two suspected child traffickers at Abaomege in Onicha Local Government Area of the state.

It was learnt that the suspects, Achibong from Akwa Ibom State and  Blessing Akpan from Cross River State had succeeded in beating security checkpoints while taking the newborn babies to Cross River state before luck ran out of them at Abaomege community in Onicha local government area.

Men of Ebubeagu Security Network who were on a stop and search operation at the border community between Ebonyi and Cross River States intercepted the suspects and insisted on checking their vehicle.

On searching the vehicle, a one-week-old baby who was wrapped in baby’s cloth and concealed in a sack belonging to one of the suspects was discovered.

On further search, another baby of about two weeks old was also discovered in another sack belonging to the second suspect who happens to be a pregnant woman.

The wife of the Governor of Ebonyi State, Rachel Umahi has instructed that the rescued babies be taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki for adequate care until further information about the babies is established.

The Chairman of Onicha Local Government Area, Felix Igboke who confirmed the incident thanked the Ebubeagu Security Network and the community vigilante and charged every community leader to be vigilant as security is the job of everyone.

The suspects have been handed over to the police for further investigation.
