Locally Made Alcoholic Beverage Kills 9

A local beer made from coconut sap has caused a few fatalities, killing nine people and leaving 100 more hospitalized, both happening separately in the Southeast Asian country of the Philippines.

According to the country's police, the alcoholic beverage known as Lambanog had killed eight people after ingestion. The victims drank this locally made liquor at a gathering in Rizal town in the Laguna province south of the country's capital of Manila.

A number of 122 locals had complained of stomach aches after digesting the drink, leading to them being rushed to the hospital. The victims were said to have suffered stomach aches, numbness in various parts of their bodies, causing them to collapse and blackout.

One of the sufferers died three days after drinking the concoction he had shared with neighbors.

The beverage is a local alcoholic drink made from coconut sap, with an alcohol content of about 40%, produced out of unsanitary conditions in various homes around the province.
