Authorities in Madagascar have announced that the passage of the powerful tropical cyclone Freddy resulted in four deaths.
Approximately 16,600 people were impacted by the storm, according to the nation's National Risk Management Office.
Contrary to cyclone Batsirai from the previous year, cyclone Freddy did not produce as much rain as anticipated despite the strong wind gusts that reached 130 kilometres per hour.
According to the UN's Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Freddy is the first cyclone and second tropical weather system to hit Madagascar this season.
The cyclone is now moving toward Mozambique and Zimbabwe on the continent of Africa after Madagascar.
More than 130 people were killed in Madagascar by Cyclone Batsirai last year.
