Magnitude 5.0 Earthquake Hits Turkey’s Ardahan

A magnitude 5.0 earthquake shook Turkey's Ardahan province on Tuesday.

The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said the epicenter of the quake was the Göle district at a depth of 7 kilometers (4.3 miles).

It added that the earthquake was felt in downtown Ardahan, as well as Erzurum's Oltu and Horasan districts.

The AFAD also said it received reports about minor damage in the district and continues to scan the area in coordination with local authorities.

Turkey is one of the countries hit by earthquakes.

One of the most damaging earthquake in Turkey, caused the death of 17,000 people and leaving more than 250,000 people homeless in 1999.
