Magu's Indictment: A 'Big Disgrace To The Nation' - PDP

Weighing into the fraud charges brought against the former Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has said that he (Magu) should be prosecuted as the law sees fit, describing the indictment of the EFCC boss as a "disgrace to the nation."

The party, in a recent statement issued by its spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, said that the indictment of Magu only accentuates the worsened state of corruption in the nation, as has been highlighted by "credible international organizations like Transparency International."

It also said that the seeming fight against corruption that the commission, under Magu's direction, had touted as its main goal, had been a total subterfuge.

The PDP also said that the arrest of Magu, head of an anti-corruption agency "in an administration led by the African Union (AU) anti-corruption champion," is a big embarrassment to Nigeria.

In the statement by the party, it also urged President Muhammadu Buhari to "clean his Augean stable" by ensuring the matter is not swept "under the carpet" or give Magu "a soft landing."

The party said, “The development has also exposed why corruption has worsened under the Buhari administration, as documented by credible international organizations, including Transparency International (TI).

“It is a big embarrassment to our nation, that the head of the anti-corruption agency in an administration led by the African Union (AU) anti-corruption champion and which prides itself on zero tolerance for corruption, is being dragged in allegation of looting recovered fund and other barefaced frauds.

“Now that the racket has been exposed, the onus lies on President Muhammadu Buhari to clean his Augean stable by not sweeping the matter under the carpet or seeking to provide a soft landing for the indicted EFCC boss and shield him from prosecution."
