Mali officially notifies ECOWAS of withdrawal decision

The Republic of Mali has officially communicated its decision to withdraw from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in a formal statement.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Mali sent a letter to the ECOWAS Commission Depositary Authority, providing formal notification of Mali's withdrawal.

The decision to withdraw was initially announced in a joint press release dated January 28, 2024, along with Burkina Faso and the Republic of Niger.

The joint statement expressed their collective decision to withdraw from ECOWAS without delay.

The formal communication from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Mali serves as a notification to the ECOWAS Commission Depositary Authority and provides information to ECOWAS Member States, the African Union, the United Nations, and relevant organizations.

The statement concludes by expressing the Ministry's assurance of its distinguished consideration to ECOWAS.
