Man arraigned for stealing goat from police barracks

Chukwudi Ugwu, 25, was arraigned on Monday at the Iyaganku Magistrate’s Court in Ibadan on charges of allegedly stealing a she-goat and a motorcycle from a police barracks.

Ugwu, whose address was not disclosed, faced charges of conspiracy and theft, to which he pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutor DSP Adewale Amos stated that Ugwu allegedly committed the offences on April 3 at the Iyaganku police barracks in Ibadan.

Amos claimed that Ugwu, along with unidentified accomplices, conspired to steal a she-goat valued at N250,000, owned by Olawole Oke.

He alleged that the defendant, on the same date and place, also stole a Bajaj motorcycle worth N250,000, the property of one David Adepoju. He said the offence contravened sections 516 and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State.

The magistrate, Maruff Mudashiru, granted the defendant N200,000 bail and two reliable sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case until July 11 for a hearing.
