Man Arraigned For Threatening To Kill Community Residents

A 38-year-old man, Timothy Faleye, on Monday appeared before the Ota Magistrates’ Court, Ogun over death threats, encroaching into community farmland and destroying crops worth N1.8 million.

The police accused Faleye of forcing his way in, doing malicious damage, endangering life, and conspiring.

The defendant and other suspects still at large committed the crimes on October 26 at around 4:30 p.m. in the Ijako, via Ajibode, Ado-Odo-Ota area of Ogun, according to the prosecutor, E.O. Adaraloye.

According to Adaraloye, the defendant and his associates planned to forcibly invade fields belonging to the Ojusango village and destroy crops worth N1.8 million.

They also posed a threat to the lives of other locals, including Muisideen Ogunremi, Akeem Abati, and Toyin Sonde, he added. 

Sections 86, 133, 451 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Volume 1, Laws of Ogun, 2006, were broken, according to the prosecutor.

But Faleye entered a not-guilty plea to the accusations.

The defendant was granted a bail of N200,000 with one surety in the same amount by the magistrate, A.O. Adeyemi.

The surety was required by Adeyemi to live in the court's geographic area, be actively seeking employment, and provide documentation of tax payments to the Ogun government.

She then set a new hearing date of December 14 for the matter.
