Gundogan won the award ahead of Jesse Lingard who has been able to rejuvenate his career at West Ham United on a loan spell.

He (Jesse) was a top contender for the accolade but Gundogan with his brace at Tottenham, assist against Burnley -- he was more outstanding than the English player.
Gundogan has been impressive despite missing the start of the campaign with City, he has been instrumental to their recent form, scoring at will.
If they remove their legs from the breaks and keep this form up, the award will surely be theirs till the end of the season.
