Man lands in jail for stealing tricycle batteries

A Sabo-Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos has handed down a six-month prison sentence to Taofeek Toheeb for unlawfully entering a store and stealing tricycle batteries valued at N485,000.

The 25-year-old defendant, who admitted guilt to charges of burglary, property damage, and theft, received the verdict from Magistrate A. O. Salawu. 

Toheeb was not given the option of a fine but was instead sentenced to hard labour. 

The magistrate stipulated that he serve two months imprisonment for each count, with the sentences to be served consecutively. 

Toheeb resides at No. 40, Bale Moshalashi St., Orile Iganmu, Lagos State.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Godwin Oriabure, told the court that Toheeb committed the offences on Jan. 10 at No. 128, Apata St., Shomolu,  Lagos state.

He said that Toheeb broke into a store, stole five tricycle batteries valued at N485,000 and damaged the entrance to the store.

Oriabure said the stolen property belonged to one Eweje Oluwaseyi.

The offences contravene Sections 287, 309 and 339 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
