Man remanded over kidnapping, armed robbery

An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan on Wednesday remanded one 38-year-old Musa Saidu for alleged kidnapping and armed robbery in Ibadan.

Saidu, whose address was not provided, is charged with conspiracy, armed robbery and kidnapping.

The Magistrate, M. Olagbenro, did not take his plea for want of jurisdiction. She directed the police to return the case file to the Oyo State Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice and thereafter adjourned the case until July 30 for mention.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Elisha Tellang, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Jan. 2, at 1.30 p.m. at Iyaganku, Ibadan.

He alleged that the defendant and others at large, while armed with dangerous weapons, attacked one Ojebisi Akanni and robbed him of his motorcycle.

Tellang alleged that the defendant also kidnapped one Ramon Shittu with the intent to demand and receive monetary ransom from his relations.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 6 (b) of the Robbery and Firearms Laws of Oyo State and Section 4(2) of the Kidnapping Prohibition Laws of Oyo State, 2016.
