Man Sentenced For Stealing Handkerchief, Keyboard In Church

An Ekiti State Magistrates Court has handed down a one-month community service sentence to George Joseph, a 35-year-old, for theft.

The decision was made by Magistrate Tomiwa Daramola, who based the ruling on Joseph's admission of guilt and the established case details.

The magistrate specified that the convict must complete one month of community service, overseen by an officer from the Nigeria Correctional Centre in Ado-Ekiti.

According to the prosecuting officer, Inspector Elijah Adejare, the incident occurred on August 6 at Ile Abiye in Ado-Ekiti.

Joseph was found to have stolen a keyboard converter valued at N10,000 and a handkerchief valued at N500, both of which belonged to St. Luke Anglican Church, Ile Abiye, Ado-Ekiti.

Adejare highlighted that the defendant had confessed to the crime, and the police successfully recovered the stolen items from him.

This action by Joseph violates section 302 of the Ekiti State Criminal Laws for the year 2021.
