A High Court sitting in Abakaliki Friday sentenced one Shedrack Njoku to seven years imprisonment for pouring acid on Chukwunonso Onwe, a member of Nigerian Bar Association, Ebonyi State chapter.
Delivering Judgement on the case, the presiding judge, Justice I.P Chima held that the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that it was the defendant who poured acid on the lawyer on October 1, 2019.
The defendant was thereby convicted on the charge of Assault Occasioning Harm and sentenced to seven years imprisonment without an option of fine.
Reacting to the judgment, the prosecution counsel J.U Chukwu, thanked the court for doing justice in the matter.
Similarly, the defendant’ s counsel Odiegwu Ibekwe, thanked the court for delivering a well considered judgment stating that courts should always ensure that justice is done in all circumstances.
