Manchester United Manager, Erik ten Hag, has revealed how the owners visited him while on holidays to announce to him that he would remain the club's head coach.

Ten Hag's future had been a subject of speculations as many English tabloids reported that the United hierarchy spoke to a number of candidates to repalce the former Ajax boss.

Thomas Tuchel and Mauricio Pocettino were the leading names said to have spoken to the INEOS group but in the end, after reviewing how the season planned out, Erik ten Hag had a vote of confidence.

United finished eighth last season, their lowest position in the Premier League era but won the FA Cup by beating Mancheter City, the second title the Dutchaman would be winning for the club in two seasons.

"The club management came to me while I was on holiday in Ibiza," Ten Hag said on Dutch TV channel NOS.

"They suddenly showed up on my doorstep and told me they wanted to continue with me.

"Manchester United have told me that they spoke with Tuchel, but they eventually came to the conclusion that they already have the best manager," he added.

"Ineos took their time. They are new in football, it's normal to reflect on the season. It's no secret that they talked with multiple candidates."

In his debut season the Dutchman led the club to third place in the Premier League, along with the Carabao Cup and FA Cup finals. He then led them to EFL Cup victory in 2023.
