A 35-year-old South African man accused of disseminating pornographic images with the superimposed faces of President Cyril Ramaphosa and Minister of Police Bheki Cele appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s court on Tuesday, May 22, 2023.

Scebi Thabiso Nene is charged with two counts of crimen injuria. He appeared in court for the first time on Tuesday, following his arrest in Pietermaritzburg by members of the Gauteng Crime Against the State (CATS) Team and the Hawks.

On 21 May, the accused was tracked down to an address in Azalea, Pietermaritzburg, and a "multitude" of pornographic photos were discovered on a device in his hands.

According to the court, Nene provided sexual photographs of Ramaphosa, Cele, and Cele's wife to a complainant who reported the incident.

The accused was remanded in jail, and the case was moved to the Magistrate's Court in Pietermaritzburg. His next appearance is scheduled on Tuesday, May 30.
