Manchester City Can Handle Cancelo's Exit, Says Guardiola

The manager of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola, has said that João Cancelo's departure doesn't leave his defence weaker.

Cancelo joined  Bayern Munich on loan until the end of the season with a view to a permanent deal worth up to £61.5m in the summer.

It was reported that Guardiola sanctioned the exit of the Portuguese international who found first-team opportunities hard to come by in recent weeks.

The full-back had only three appearances at Manchester City after he returned from the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Guardiola, in his press conference, ahead of the Super Sunday clash with Tottenham said he trusts his players to handle Cancelo's exit well.

"He’s an exceptional player, with his work ethic and love and passion for football," the gaffer said.

"Everyone knows it. I’m happy with my squad.

"We can handle the situation and I trust the players I have."

Guardiola however wished him all the best in the Bundesliga, describing him as an incredible figure.

"I wish him the very best," continued Ped. "He has been an incredible figure in winning two Premier League titles.

"After the World Cup, we have been playing in different patterns and I've given more time to other players.

"Everyone has their own personality. He loves to play, he trains the best but he needs to play to be happy, so we decided together to let him go to Munich.

"He wants to play every game so hopefully that can happen in Munich."
