Manchester City Overcome Sevilla On Penalties To Win UEFA Su

Manchester City prevailed over Sevilla to win the 2023 UEFA Super Cup inside Greece's Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium on Wednesday.

City fought back to win the match 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in normal time.

The win makes City the fifth consecutive UEFA Champions League holders to beat their Europa League counterparts.

Sevilla drew first blood inside 25 minutes when Youssef En-Nesyri sent a bullet header past Ederson.

En-Nesyri should have doubled his side's lead early on in the second period but his effort was saved by the feet of City's goalkeeper.

That missed opportunity proved costly as Cole Palmer drew city level when he headed home Rodri's superb cross in the 63rd minute.

With nothing to separate both sides at full-time, the match advanced straight to a penalty shootout to decide the winner.

The first nine spot-kicks all found the back of the net before Sevilla's Gudeij rattled the 10th penalty against the crossbar to hand City victory in their first-ever UEFA Super Cup appearance.
