Manchester City To Release NFT Collection To Celebrate Premi

After winning the English Premier League title, Manchester City F.C. announced it will launch a collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to celebrate its victory.

The premier league champions are making history as the first premier league champions to mark their victory by dropping a non-fungible token collection.

The club made the announcement via a press release on its website on Wednesday, stating that the collection, named “1” to reflect the team's position in the table, will comprise four works by artist Jon Noorlander.

By mixing up the number of tokens to be created or ‘dropped’ for each of the four tokens, Manchester City can appeal to a diverse target market. A one-off token is perhaps aimed at the crypto-rich. And the tokens with larger numbers can appeal to its broader fan base.

A portion of the club's profits from the sale will go to the City in the Community charity, earmarked for the Manchester Cityzens Giving for Recovery project. One of the aims is to support mental health issues in young people as a result of COVID-19.

According to Manchester City, “1” will be available on NFT platform MakersPlace on May 24, the day after City receives the Premier League trophy at the Etihad Stadium after its final league match of the season, against Everton.

Manchester City has two existing blockchain deals. One is for fan tokens with Socios, which does not involve NFTs. However, the deal with games company Animoca is NFT oriented, but that’s part of a game being developed.

The collection comprises four works by multidisciplinary artist, Jon Noorlander, The Champions Celebrate, the hero piece of the collection, which will be a unique edition, Signed by the Champions, The Champions Mosaic, and The Champions Medal.

In addition, there will be a free prize draw giving people a chance to win an edition of The Champions Medal.
