Mane, Oshoala Retain Best African Footballer At CAF Awards

Senegalese forward Sadio Mane and Nigerian female striker Asisat Oshoala were named African Footballer of Year on Thursday.

Both players were winning the accolade for the second time in a row after winning the award in 2019.

Mane, led Senegal as they claimed their first Africa Cup of Nations title and repeated the feat when they secured World Cup qualification.

Mane who has now moved to Bayern Munich finished ahead of Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah, his former Liverpool teammate, and fellow Senegalese Edouard Mendy in the voting.

Oshoala took the accolade for the 5th time on Thursday despite sustaining an injury during the ongoing WAFCON 2022.

 

The former Super Falcons skipper was seen with a leg aid as she approached the stage to collect the award.

She also gave an emotional speech thanking all her fans, and teammates both at the club and national team levels.

Although the nine-time Champions would not be able to extend their record to ten but could finish 3rd when they face Zambia for the third playoffs.
