Scores Killed As Bandits Attack Plateau Community

About 40 people have been killed in an attack by bandits on communities in the Miango kingdom of Plateau state.

The attack happened on Monday night resulting in loss of lives and properties.

According to reports, at least 43 bodies were found in the early hours of Tuesday.

The affected villages were from Irigwe Kingdom, Miango Local Government Area.

Gunmen raided Bassa and Riyom Local Government Areas of the state Saturday, burning hundreds of homes and destroying crops in the area.

Leaders of the Iregwe kingdom, which has been hit hardest by the attacks, have complained that security forces have allowed the attackers to continue their three-day offensive in the area.

According to a BBC report, the Chairman of the Iregwe Development Association, Prince Robert Irigwe Ashidodo, said security forces deployed in the area had refused to take action against the attackers despite reports by the villages.

Plateau State information commissioner, Mr Dan Manjang, said although security was at stake, security was the responsibility of all locals.

No comment has been made by Plateau Police Force.

A senior Official in the kindom, Auta Danjuma, had accused fulani herdsmen, but the Mi Yetti Allah Association has denied the allegation.
