Marcus Rashford: This Is What Wayne Rooney Thinks Of Man Uni

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has told friends he thinks Marcus Rashford can better his goal tally for the English Premier League (EPL) club.

The current Derby County boss found the net 253 times during his 13-year stay at Old Trafford. But that record, in his opinion, may not last forever.

Rashford played alongside Rooney for approximately two years at United.

The young athlete burst onto the scene during the Louis van Gaal era, with both he and Rooney helping the now-retired Dutch tactician win the FA Cup in 2016.

They also both played key roles as the Red Devils won the EFL Cup and the UEFA Europa League under Jose Mourinho the following year.

Rooney won five EPL titles in an illustrious Manchester United sojourn.

And, according to The Athletic, the 35-year-old has told friends he thinks his compatriot can match his goal tally for the club.

The 23-year-old has scored 83 times for the Red Devils since being given his debut in 2016 and he has spoken out on his determination to spending his entire career at Manchester United.

"I never look beyond Manchester United and as a kid I have never looked beyond Manchester United," Rashford had said in December 2020.

"In my mind it wouldn’t sit right for me to be pulling on another shirt. I just want to do my best I can.

"Hopefully I am here for a long time."

In a piece of related news, former Manchester United striker, Andy Cole does not believe that Rashford will ever be able to hit the 20-goal mark for the Red Devils in a single season.

According to Cole, Rashford 'is not going to be a clinical centre-forward like a Edinson Cavani'.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Cole said: "Marcus is not going to be a clinical centre-forward like a Cavani. [He] will nick himself a certain amount of goals season in, season out, but he won't be that individual you're looking for to score 20 to 25 goals.

"I don't think Marcus has got that clinical side in him. If you look at what Man United have now with Cavani; you know what you're going to get [with him], it's as simple as that.

"His out of possession work is far better than [Anthony] Martial, Rashford and [Mason] Greenwood. They've got a lot to learn, those young players, in terms of how he operates when Manchester United haven't got the ball and I think ultimately, those young three I've named, haven't grabbed that No.9 spot."
