Marriage For Us Cannot Be Prison: Will Smith On Open Marriage With Jada Pinkett-Smith

Marriage For Us Cannot Be Prison: Will Smith On Open Marriag

Hollywood actor, Will Smith has spoken on the issue of his open marriage with his actress wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith.

In a recent interview for the October issue of GQ, Will Smith said they chose to be monogamous for the large part of their relationship but later decided to open it because they were both miserable and clearly something had to change.

Smith added that marriage for them cannot be a prison and that they've given each other trust and freedom.

“Jada never believed in a conventional marriage. Jada had family members that had an unconventional relationship. So she grew up in a way that was very different than how I grew up,” he said.

“There were significant endless discussions about, what is relational perfection? What is the perfect way to interact as a couple? And for the large part of our relationship, monogamy was what we chose, not thinking of monogamy as the only relational perfection.”

“We have given each other trust and freedom, with the belief that everybody has to find their own way. And marriage for us can’t be a prison.

“And I don’t suggest our road for anybody. I don’t suggest this road for anybody. But the experiences that the freedoms that we’ve given one another and the unconditional support, to me, is the highest definition of love.”

Jada Pinkett-Smith and August Alsina

In mid-2020, rapper August Alsina had claimed that he had engaged in a relationship with Jada with Will’s permission.

Jada initially denied the claims, but when she and Will took part in an interview for her web show Red Table Talk, she said that an “entanglement” had occurred.
