Love, they say is found in least expected places and people and such is the case with some Nigerian celebrities who struck the matchstick of love on social media. A whole lot of time, people make different decisions while growing up as to choices of where to meet a soul mate, but guess what, as time goes on things change, most especially with the advent of social media platforms.

Finding love on social media, as sweet or confusing as it seem, is now a thing as it makes it easier to find intending lovers' interests and gradually sliding into DMs to strike conversations. Sometimes mere clicking the like buttons on posts, joining same conversations lead to lasting relationships as demonstrated by some Nigerian celebrities.

Even though many find it difficult to believe in striking the matchstick of love on social media, over claims that they often times do not stand tests of time, many have been lucky enough to find their life partners by sliding into DMs while some unions hit the rocks along the line.

Many times, some of those that hit the rocks occur after meeting in person and then things take new turns.

Apart from the celebrities, there are several happy couples that met online. AllNews has compiled a brief list of Nigerian celebrities who met online and are happily married. All be it, some like music act 2shortz and his wife Precious met online, but their marriage crashed due to domestic violence allegation. Also, Blossom Chukwujekwu and his estranged wife Maureen Esisi.

Ebuka Obi-Uchendu and wife Cynthia

Popular media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu and his wife Cynthia Obianodo got to know each other on Twitter some years back, met in November 2014, got engaged in April 2015 and got married on 6 February 2016.

During a question and answer session with her followers on social media, Cynthia revealed that she met her husband on Twitter, after a fan inquired to know.

Recently, the duo blessed with two children celebrated their 4th wedding anniversary, with Ebuka sharing a beautiful photo on Instagram with a heartwarming caption.

Simi and Adekunle Gold

Simi, while in a 2019 interview with Ndani TV, said she met her heartthrob Adekunle Gold on Facebook, after which they had their first meeting at a show headlined in Lagos.

Simi noted that they went on to become friends, dated and eventually got married.

The celebrity couple sealed their love with a low-key traditional wedding in Lagos in January 2019 in the presence of few friends and family.

The songstress, born Simisola Ogunleye, had said that Adekunle Gold “chased me all over Facebook” before they eventually met.

The “Joromi” crooner said they met for the first time in 2013 at Bogobiri House, Ikoyi, where she had gone to perform.

“He was chasing me all over Facebook. When I was doing gospel music, he used to listen to my songs.

“The first time I ever saw him, I was supposed to do a show at Bogobiri and he came for the show. That was the first time I ever met him.

“Over the years, we were friends at first. When I first met him, I knew him as king of photoshop. I didn’t know he was doing music seriously.”

They met in 2013.

The Wellingtons

Banky W and Adesua Etomi stunned their fans after the news of their engagement surfaced on social media in 2017. Banky W, who was Adesua’s husband in Kemi Adetiba’s blockbuster movie ‘Wedding Party’, took to Instagram to reveal real life relationship with the actress.

He shared a picture of himself kneeling in front of his current fiance, Adesua, in front of a desk and captioned it: In that time, I got engaged to you in my “made for you” music video… and by pure coincidence, we both got cast to get married in the wedding party movie... but all the while we were the very best of friends. I guess, in our case, real life will now imitate art.

Adesua revealed that their love story started in 2015 after Banky approached her at an event asking her to be his friend.

On her Instagram page, she wrote: “I went to an event in 2015 and I suppose that was the beginning of something amazing because once Banky saw me, he decided that he was going to be my biggest fan.

“He slid into my DM and sent the funniest message and that was how we became friends. At the time, I wasn’t interested in anything but a friendship and he was very respectful of that and so we stayed just friends for about a year and a half.

“Our friendship opened my eyes to a lot of things. Opened my eyes to the type of man Olubankole is and WHAT A MAN. WHAT A MIGHTY GOOD MAN.

Wumi Toriola and husband

Nollywood screen diva Wumi Toriola is not left out among those who found love on social media.

Toriola who did not expose her husband on social media before they tied the knot, in an interview revealed that she met him on Facebook.

In one of her old interviews with Abiola Orisile of City people, dug out on the actress said he got to know about her in a movie, searched for her on Facebook.

“He saw me in a movie, and it happened. I don’t like to talk about it, laugh! He saw me in a movie and we chatted via Facebook and I rarely do Facebook, and everything just happened.

“Hmmm, we chatted on Facebook and he was like, let’s go out, and I agreed it was just as if. Someone used something on me, because am usually not like that.

Asked how easy it was for him to convince her for marriage, the mother of one said: “It was really easy, sometimes. I even use to tell him, that he got me so cheap. Because that’s not me, and that’s the main reason why I actually feel, he is truly my husband, because naturally I am a very tough girl. I am not just the normal girl, that you can say syllabus will make her bend. Sooner how I went on cheaply and I was like, let’s see how it will go and it went well.”
