Martinez Wins FIFA Men's Goalkeeper Award In Paris

Emiliano Martinez

Aston Villa goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez has been named the Best FIFA Men's Goalkeeper at the prestigious awards ceremony in Paris on Monday.

Martinez was crucial to Argentina's success at the 2022 World Cup, where he made several crucial saves at penalties and normal game time to guide his team to their third world championship.

During the World Cup final against France, Martinez made a vital stop during extra time, denying Kolo Muani a goal before Argentina went on to win the match on penalties.

He also made saves against the Netherlands in the Quarterfinals stages of the global competition.

However, the goalkeeper's post-match celebrations stirred some controversy, as he made a few jokes at the expense of Kylian Mbappe, the defeated France star. Fortunately, both players have downplayed any supposed rivalry since then.

While accepting the award in France, Martinez expressed his gratitude to his family, his club Aston Villa, and the Argentina team for their support and inspiration.
