Masari Directs Banks, Business Community To Accept Old Naira

Katsina Governor, Aminu Bello Masari

The governor of Katsina State, Aminu Bello Masari has ordered banks in the state to continue to accept the old Naira notes.

The governor also ordered the business community to continue to accept the denomination of N1,000, N500 and N200 old notes in their transactions.

This was made available in a statement on Sunday by the State's Commissioner of Information, Culture and Home Affairs, Abdulkarim Yahaya Sirika.

According to Sirika, the governor said the federal government through the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami SAN has nodded in line with the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court had ruled that the old and new Naira notes should continue to coexist until February 15, 2023, to determine the continued or otherwise usage of the old currency.

"The Governor, therefore directs all banks and the Business Community in the State to respect the rule of law and continue to accept all transactions involving the old notes", the statement reads.

Masari also urged all residents in the state to abide by the directive.

"The Governor also urges all and sundry in the state to abide by this directive to ensure peace, harmony and tranquility in the State," Sirika said.
