Matawalle Launches Security Outfit With 2,000 Personnel

The Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, has launched the recruitment of 2,000 personnel under the state's security outfit to tackle thuggery.

This was disclosed by the Chairman of the State Anti-thuggery Standing Committee, Bello Bakyasuwa on Thursday in Gusau, the state capital.

The committee was established by governor Matawalle under Executive Order 2 to fight thuggery, drug abuse and other related crimes across the state.

“Yes, Governor Bello Matawalle recently gave us approval for the recruitment of 2,000 personnel comprising males and females into the anti-thuggery outfit in the state.

“We received applications from 6,700 candidates comprising males and females seeking the job, we are currently on the recruitment exercise.

“Apart from 2000 personnel to be recruited, we are going to recruit additional volunteer personnel.

“This is part of the state government’s commitment to expanding the activities of the fight against thuggery, drugs abuse and other related crimes across the 14 Local Government Areas of the state.

“Immediately after the recruitment, we are going to deploy the newly recruited personnel to their respective LGAs."

He added that the committee had since reduced the activities of thugs, drug abuse, social vices and other related crimes across the state.

Bakyasuwa further expressed optimism to rid the state of thuggery amongst other related crimes.

While reacting to the issue of political witch-hunting, he said: “As I always say, the committee was established by the state government, not for political reasons but to enhance the security situation and ensure the protection of lives and properties of the citizens.

“We are not meant for political reasons or witch-hunting, we are mandated to complement the efforts of the government and security agencies in tackling the security challenges facing the state."
