The Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle has sympathized with victims caught in military air strikes against bandits in the Maru Local Government Area of the state.
The governor also condoled the families of the innocent victims of the strikes.
The governor made his sympathy known in a statement on Tuesday signed by his Special Adviser, Public Enlightenment, Media and Communications, Zailani Bappa.
According to Bappa, the governor was saddened by the unfortunate incident.
He explained that the Nigeria Air Force had targeted a group of bandits but hit a number of civilians in the cause.
According to the governor: “This unfortunate incident has come at a time when both the state government and the Nigerian military are poised to effectively end the menace of the bandits, especially by taking the fight to their enclaves.
“I wish to, on behalf of myself, my family, the state government and the entire good people of Zamfara State, extend my sincere sympathy to those who were injured and the families of those who died as a result of this collateral damage."
He further revealed that the state government had begun an investigation into the incident while taking action to avert future occurrences.
