May Day: Gombe Government Promises Conducive Working Conditi

Gombe Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has assured the workforce of continued provision of conducive working environment for  effective service delivery and socio-economic development of the state.

The Governor stated this in his remarks at the 2023 International Workers' Day Celebration held at the Pantami Stadium, Gombe.  

Governor Inuwa Yahaya, who was represented by his Deputy, Manassah Daniel Jatau, described the workforce as the engine room of implementation of government policies and programs, which made the achievements recorded by his administration possible.

"The significance of workers towards success of any Government needs no further emphasis, as they carry out responsibilities ensuring visible manifestation of developments of various Government policies and programs.

"In this regards, the modest achievements recorded by this administration, rightly acknowledged by NLC Chairman could not have been possible without the cooperation, hard work, dedication and loyalty of workers in Gombe State".  

"At this juncture, let me call on the leadership of the NLC that there is the compelling need for it to educate its members and the general public on the importance of the country's symbols like the currency, flags and the National Anthem.

"Furthermore, members of the NLC should strive to improve themselves and be knowledgeable about their environment so that they can serve the society better.

"On the issues of minimum wage Committee, the Deputy Governor is the Chairman of the Committee and will engage the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress in the State when the need arises.

"On the outstanding gratuity, Government is doing its best.

"As we are aware, Workers' Day is set aside to enable workers to celebrate and have sober reflection on their numerous contributions to the socio-economic development of our dear State.

"I congratulate you for witnessing this important day. Let me use this opportunity to thank the entire good people of Gombe State on the successful conduct of the general elections in the State.

"Government is doing all it could to ensure that the dividend of democracy has reached the entire citizens of the State by God's Grace.

"International Workers' Day commemoration is significant because it provides an opportunity for employers and employees to analyze successes and challenges, rob minds  towards the enhancement of Industrial peace, harmony and growth in our nation.

"Furthermore, the declaration of 1st May every year by United Nations Organization as International Workers Day is aimed at remembering workers and their contributions and how conducive atmosphere can be created to protect their rights and improve their working conditions.

"I want to congratulate the new executives of the Nigeria Labour Congress on their successful election and also commend the out-gone executives and indeed the entire people of Gombe State for supporting this administration in its efforts at transforming the State.

"I would like to assure you of our unwavering commitment to provide socio-economic infrastructure to improve. the well-being of our people.

"There is therefore the need for labour to work closely with government to improve living standard of workers and citizens through constructive engagement.

In his address, the Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, Gombe State Chapter, Comrade Yusuf Aish Bello congratulated the workers and appreciated the understanding existing between the Government and workers of the state.

"There is no doubt that since the inception of your administration, labour has been an integral part of your administration.

"This has also culminated into an atmosphere of industrial peace and harmony.

"Let me use this medium to commend His Excellency, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya (Dan Majen Gombe) the Executive Governor of Gombe State for the numerous achievements recorded in Gombe State in the areas of urban and rural Roads, Health, Education, implementation of promotion to Civil Servants in both State and local Governments, Thirty Thousand (#30,000:00) minimum wage implementation in the state, prompt payment of salary, allowances to Civil Servants and Pension in Gombe State and above all security of lives and property of the citizens", a statement by the deputy Governor's Chief Press Secretary,  Wilson Jonah Yakubu.
