The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum, has urged workers in the state to support the state's transformation agenda for the economic recovery of the state.

He urged them to support the government through its 25-year development framework for the state.

The governor who was represented by his deputy, Umar Usman Kadafur, made the call on Monday in Maiduguri, the state's capital.

The governor who spoke during the celebration of the 2023 Workers'Day at the Ramat Square in Maiduguri, said the task of building the state is a collective one.

He appealed to the workers to remain steadfast, law-abiding and dedicated for the government to continue to address all their demands.

This was contained in a statement by the spokesperson to the governor, Malam Isa Gusau.

According to Gusau, the governor stressed that government will continue to create an enabling environment for the state workers to deliver on their jobs.

He said the state government has achieved so much in the areas of prompt salary payment and allowances, sponsorship of workshops and seminars as well as settlement of gratuities and provision of office furniture among others.

While noting that the government had remained committed to the welfare of the workers, he noted that there was a need for them to reciprocate the gesture by working with passion to move the state forward.

While congratulating them on the 2023 Workers' Day celebration, he appealed to the people of the state to continue to pray for the full return of peace to the state.

Meanwhile, the state's chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Yusuf Inuwa, appreciated the Governor Zulum-led administration for addressing issues that affected workers' welfare.

He further expressed optimism that more would come in the second tenure of the governor.

He further appealed for the implementation of promotion benefits, payments of gratuities and pensions for local governments, and absorption of the Housing Corporation, Borno Express and State Hotel into the mainstream civil service.

He also requested the extension of years of service for all categories of civil servants in the state to help retain trained civil servants that are retiring in mass.
