The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria has granted approval for the pre-clinical accreditation of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Rhema University, Aba, Abia State.
The approval is contained in a statement by the institution's Public Relations Officer (PRO), Earl Okezie, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Umuahia, on Thursday.
According to Okezie, the approval by the council was related to the university through a letter signed by its Registrar, Dr Tajudeen Sanusi, after the report of its accreditation team's visit to the university on October 13.
The letter quoted Sanusi as saying “with this approval, Rhema University College of Health Sciences can now proceed to conduct examinations in Anatomy, Biochemistry and Physiology”.
It added that the university could also conduct Part 1 Professional – second MB examinations.
Reacting to the approval, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ogbonnaya Onwudike was said to have thanked the council for the accreditation.
Onwudike said, "this milestone calls for more work as this is just one of the many accreditation visits to be carried out in the university by the council."
Prof. Madu Awa, the Provost of the college commended the accomplishment, maintaining that the institution was ready to produce competitive medical doctors in medical sciences fields across the world.
The Private institution, Rhema University was established in Abia state in 2010.
