Medvedev Downs Sinner To Claim Rotterdam Title, Set To Enter

Daniil Medvedev

Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev defeated Jannik Sinner to secure his 16th career title in the Rotterdam ATP final on Sunday.

The former world No 1, who was seeded second in the tournament, battled past Italy's Jannik Sinner in a hard-fought three-set match. Initially losing the first set 5-7, Medvedev staged a remarkable comeback and won the next two sets 6-2, 6-2.

Sinner had arrived in Rotterdam fresh off a win at the Montpellier tournament the previous weekend. Despite his impressive recent form, he was unable to get the better of Medvedev, who extended his head-to-head record against the Italian to 6-0.

Medvedev's victory also means that he will return to the world's top 10 when the new rankings are released on Monday.

The win marks an encouraging start to the season for Medvedev, who had a disappointing start to the year with a loss in the Australian Open quarter-finals. He now has his sights set on the upcoming ATP Masters events in Miami and Monte Carlo, where he will look to build on his Rotterdam success.

Medvedev's victory is also a timely reminder of his ability on the court. The 27-year-old enjoyed a stellar 2019, which saw him reach six consecutive tournament finals and win three titles. He reached the US Open final that year, where he narrowly lost to Rafael Nadal, and followed it up with a win at the ATP Tour Finals in London.

Medvedev will be hoping to replicate that success in the coming months, and his Rotterdam triumph will give him a welcome boost of confidence. He has proven that he has the talent and resilience to compete at the highest level, and with a growing reputation as one of the sport's brightest young talents, he will be looking to add to his impressive trophy collection in the years to come.
