Men of greed, the very men of power
Administering Africa’s most populous nation
Robbers without guns
Slavers without whips
Legal fraudsters
Felling the very institutions they swore to protect.
Once the rich bride of Africa
Her magnanimous personality reigned supreme
And her storehouse an object of global envy
With their pens
They rob her at will
Strip her of dignity with rapacious delight
The once-thriving giant of Africa
Today she is the laughable sight of a stunted giant
A result of the privileged incompetent few
A bunch of renowned halfwits
And square pegs in round holes
Occupying the hallowed sanctuaries of power
Like people behind a car's driving wheel
With no driving knowledge whatsoever
Ssshhh!!!
The city floods with a menacing species of watchdogs
Dreaded, bearing tags of E's and C's
The master’s glorified errand boys
Hounding clean hands that oppose the master
Or soiled hands that step out of line
Those who've dared to pitch a fight against them
Scathed, have only bitter stories to tell
These puppets flout court orders at will
Betraying every definition of democracy
In perfect emulation of the master
Who makes no pretence of his spite for the law
Being enthroned by that same law nonetheless
But how do we paddle out
Of the murky waters of chicanery
With the law sorely amputated
And its makers revelling in undue largesse?
Save through that which we believe;
Prayer, our one potent weapon
With which we should carry on
As our Janus-faced leaders continue to loot the country
Whilst she gasps for breath,
Until judgement day.
