Popular gospel singer Mercy Chinwo has filed a N2 billion lawsuit against upcoming artist Obidiz for using her name and image in a secular song.
In the suit dated March 23, 2023, Chinwo slammed Obidiz for using her name derogatorily and cited that her image and name were used in his music audio and video without her permission.
Chinwo’s lawyers have sent Obidiz a cease and desist letter, ordering him to remove the song from all musical platforms and take down any promotional video containing her image and clips from all social media platforms.
Obidiz has been warned that failure to comply with the demands will result in the full machinery of the law being set in motion against him.
Mercy Chinwo is seeking N2 billion in damages for the defamatory use of her name and image in the secular music audio and video.
Obidiz used Mercy Chinwo’s name as the title of his song and also cited her as an example of a wayward, club girl.
The offending lyrics read; “She dey share me the cake, but she no want commit. Mercy Chinwo for church, but for club na Cardi B sef.”
